Frequently Asked Questions – Murphy Beds with Sofa
Can I sit on the sofa when the bed is folded up?
Yes. The sofa remains fully usable at all times — whether the bed is open or closed. Unlike traditional sofa beds where you need to remove cushions and unfold a mattress, the Genius sofa wall bed keeps the sofa in place throughout. You can sit on it during the day and fold the bed down in the evening without moving the sofa at all.
Is the sofa comfortable for everyday use?
Yes. The sofa integrated into the Genius Series is designed for daily use, not just occasional sitting. It provides proper seating comfort and is upholstered in a durable fabric that holds up well over time. It is a genuine sofa, not a decorative panel — making it suitable for living rooms, studio flats and home offices alike.
How does the Murphy bed with sofa work?
The bed is stored vertically inside the wall cabinet above the sofa. To open it, you simply release the locking mechanism and lower the bed using the gas-lift system — the movement is smooth and requires minimal effort. The sofa stays in its position while the bed folds down in front of it. To close, you lift the bed back up and it locks securely into the cabinet.
What sizes are available for Murphy beds with sofa?
Our Genius Murphy beds with sofa are available in double (140×200 cm) and king (160×200 cm) sizes. The sofa width corresponds to the bed size. If you are unsure which size suits your room, contact our team and we will help you choose the right configuration.
How much space do I need for a Murphy bed with sofa?
The wall unit requires between 160 and 180 cm of wall width depending on the bed size chosen. When the bed is open, it extends approximately 241 cm from the wall, so you need sufficient floor clearance in front of the sofa. We recommend marking the footprint on the floor before ordering to confirm the fit.
Can I add wardrobes or shelving to the Murphy bed with sofa?
Yes. The Genius Series is a fully modular system. You can add matching wardrobe units and open shelving on either side of the sofa wall bed to create a complete, built-in look. This is a popular choice for studio flats and spare rooms where maximising storage is just as important as saving floor space.
Is a Murphy bed with sofa better than a sofa bed?
For most people, yes. A Murphy bed with sofa allows you to use a full-size mattress (up to 24 cm thick) which provides significantly better sleeping comfort than a typical sofa bed mattress. The sofa also remains fully functional at all times — there is no unfolding, no removing cushions, and no compromising on either the seating or sleeping experience.
